For thousands of motorcycle riders over the years the mention of Suches, Georgia would automatically bring to mind the ‘Two Wheels Only’ motorcycle lodge and campground located there. Unfortunately T.W.O. closed down a few years ago leaving a big void (as far as gathering points go) for riders enjoying the great roads in the North Georgia Mountains that make up ‘The Loop’ which consists of sections of highways 19, 60, 180 & 129.
The latter part of last year word began to spread that somebody had purchased the property and planned to re-open it in 2013 in a similar fashion as the former T.W.O. existed so when I was riding in the area with some friends last weekend I decided to stop by to see what I could find out.
The new owner is a man by the name of Bill Johnston. Apparently Mr Johnston used to frequent the former T.W.O. quite regularly and as many of us were, he was saddened when the place was shut down. He told me that after quite a bit of thought and investigation he decided to purchase the property (along with some adjoining land) and bring the place back to life.
The new name will be ‘Two Wheels of Suches’ and they plan to open sometime around the end of April or in early May. The restaurant will begin serving breakfast and lunch then but the days and hours of operation have not yet been determined. The camping area has been expanded and will include a bathhouse along with four (two person) bunkhouses. Mr Johnston said he will possibly add more bunkhouses next year but that it will depend the usage of the initial bunkhouses this year as to whether more will be built. There will also be an area across the creek for cars, trucks and trailers to park as well.
This is all great news for motorcyclists that frequent ‘The Loop’ along with others who will ride in the area for the first time as a favorite gathering place for riders opens back up for business. Thank you Bill Johnston !!
If you wish you can check back here from time to time as I will be posting an update as soon as an opening date is determined.
